About us
In January, 2007 Steve, Jide and Justine (aka DJ Sankofa) joined forces to create Sankofa African Bar and Restaurante in order to provide a venue for live music in Salvador. Our intention is to promote the linkages between Africa, Bahia, and the world. We enable our guests of different backgrounds to find common roots and build stronger relationships. Our diversity is our strength. Lets celebrate it.
Sankofa is a symbol of the Akan people from West Africa. Sankofa means, "go back and take." In other words, gather the best of what your past has to teach you, so that you can acheive your full potential. Visually and symbolically "Sankofa" is expressed as a bird that flies forward while looking backward with an egg in its mouth. Hint, hint, check out our logo.
